A low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) is on track to become a tropical depression by Thursday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
As of 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, the LPA 10e was being monitored outside the PAR. PAGASA said it has a “medium” chance to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours. It was located 1,665 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas.
In an earlier public broadcast, PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said the LPA that was spotted at 1,765 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao had increased chances of turning into a new cyclone within 24 to 48 hours.
Once the LPA enters the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), it will be named ‘Ramil.’
“Based on the current forecast track, the LPA will possibly come closer to Northern Luzon. It will possibly bring rainfall over a large part of Luzon over the weekend,” Dominguez said. “As of now, the LPA is still far away, and the forecast may still change,” she added.
Dominguez advised the public to continue to monitor weather updates from PAGASA.
Meanwhile, she said the easterlies from the Pacific Ocean will keep bringing cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers across Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Southern Luzon and the Visayas. The northeasterly windflow affects extreme Northern Luzon.
On the other hand, localized thunderstorms will affect parts of Mindanao.
