‘Danas’ turning slowly toward PAR with possible ‘short’ reentry period

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on late Saturday morning announced that Tropical Storm “Danas” (formerly Bising) is slowly turning east-northwestward over the sea west of extreme northern Luzon outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

This latest development indicates the tropical cyclone’s possible reentry into PAR by the end of the weekend.

“(Danas) is forecast to move northward slowly for the next 12 hours before turning north-northeastward over the sea west of extreme northern Luzon,” PAGASA said in its tropical cyclone advisory.

“A short period of reentry over the northwestern boundary of PAR is possible by Monday,” it added.

Moreover, Danas is forecast to intensify into a severe tropical storm within the next 24 hours, maintain its strength while passing over the Taiwan Strait, and weaken on Tuesday as it interacts with the landmass of eastern China.

“Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to continue monitoring for updates related to this tropical cyclone,” PAGASA concluded.
