Easterlies bring isolated rains to Metro Manila, LPA outside PAR weakens

Metro Manila and other parts of the country are experiencing isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to the prevailing easterlies, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported Tuesday.

In its latest 4 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the easterlies—warm winds blowing from the Pacific Ocean—are affecting most of Luzon and the Visayas, causing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of localized thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) continues to bring cloudy skies and scattered rains over Palawan, Mindanao, and parts of the Visayas, including Central Visayas, the Negros Island Region, and Leyte provinces.

PAGASA warned of potential flooding and landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rainfall caused by these weather systems.

The state weather bureau also issued an update on the low pressure area (LPA) monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). As of 2 p.m., the LPA has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, PAGASA said.

Winds across the country remain light to moderate, with slight to moderate coastal conditions expected.

Metro Manila recorded a maximum temperature of 34.7°C at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, with humidity peaking at 88% by 3:00 p.m.—a combination that could intensify the heat index and increase the likelihood of afternoon thunderstorms.

PAGASA advises the public to stay updated with official weather advisories and take precautions during periods of heavy rainfall.
