The city governments of Las Piñas and Parañaque also announced suspension of onsite classes at all levels in both public and private schools on Monday, March 3, due to ‘danger’ level heat index expected to reach by 46 degrees Celsius.
Earlier, Malabon City canceled in-person classes for all its students in private and public schools as well. Nearby cities Caloocan and Valenzuela also suspended onsite classes, but only for kindergarten and senior high school students in public schools.
Valenzuela City Technological College, however, announced its suspension of face-to-face-classes for its student community.
La Salle Greenhills in Mandaluyong City also said it will conduct asynchronous learning mode for preschool to Grade 3 students and synchronous mode for Grades 4 to 12 students.
The announcements stem from the two-day computed highest heat index forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), which noted at least three locations nationwide are expected to sizzle at 45 to 46 degrees Celsius on Monday.
- Science Garden, Quezon City (Metro Manila) – 46C
- Clark Airport, Pampanga (Central Luzon) – 46C
- CLSU Muñoz, Nueva Ecija – 45C
PAGASA says temperatures ranging from 42C to 51C are considered ‘danger’ levels. Individuals may suffer heat cramps and heat exhaustion. Heat stroke is also probable with continued exposure.
