Lovers who are planning to go out on Valentine’s Day need not worry about heavy rains as state meteorologists forecast generally fair weather conditions across Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon this Friday, February 14.
As of 8:00 a.m. Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the low pressure area (LPA) they are monitoring outside of the Philippine area of responsibility has “low chance” of developing into a tropical depression.
In an interview over TeleRadyo Serbisyo, weather forecaster Dan Villamil confirmed Metro Manila will enjoy mostly fair weather while parts of eastern and central Luzon will be affected by easterlies or trade winds moving east-to-west in the Earth’s equatorial region.
These easterlies will be responsible for the “partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms” in Metro Manila and the rest of the country this Friday, according to PAGASA.
These warm winds from the Pacific affected a large part of the country after the cool northeast monsoon or ‘hanging amihan’ slightly weakened.
Meanwhile, erring on the side of caution, the state weather bureau released general flood advisories (GFA) across 10 regions in light of shear line-induced rainfall affecting extreme northern Luzon and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) in Mindanao.
The GFAs covered Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Caraga, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
