The tandem between former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas and Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio of Lakas-CMD as presidential and vice presidential candidates, respectively, in 2022 national elections has been successfully firmed up and finalized.

Both camps confirmed that the Marcos-Duterte-Carpio tandem would be the team-up that the PFP and Lakas-CMD would be strongly campaigning for under the banner of “unifying leadership” for the country should they win the 2022 elections.

“Mayor Inday Sara Duterte and I have gone through the process for the tandem that our supporters are looking forward to: the BBM-SARA in 2022,” Marcos said in a statement.

“And we and our parties have agreed to advance united leadership in case we prosper in the coming elections on May 9, 2022,” he added.

Marcos said the tandem would continue the achievements of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, which ends on June 30, 2022.

“With the goal of the two of us to continue and extend the good achievements of the Duterte government, we now call on you to join hands in trusting and supporting the leadership of our dear President,” the former lawmaker said.

“I agree with Inday Sara when she said that `We have only one dream… to have a more stable, more peaceful, more developed country.’”

In a video message on Tuesday night, Duterte-Carpio, the vice presidential candidate of the Lakas-CMD, asked her supporters to back the presidential bid of Marcos.

“My party has formed an alliance and asked for support for Bongbong Marcos and for me after I accepted your challenge and call,” she said.

She indicated that Lakas-CMD president House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez had committed the party's support for Marcos' presidential candidacy.

"Our standard-bearer has spoken," Romualdez said, when asked to comment on the party's support for Marcos.

The PFP said it took pride in the formalization of the ticket for next year's polls.

“We believe that through this formidable tandem, our nation can recover, heal, and be great once again,” it said.

“Through their unifying partnership, with the help of the PFP-Lakas CMD coalition and our allies, we can begin the noble task of nation building,” it said.

Duterte-Carpio revealed the PDP-Laban turned down her appeal for support, but she said she understood the party's position. Her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, is the chairman of the ruling party.

“But I just want to clarify — no name is being tarnished, no one isbeing run over, no one is aggrieved, fought, forced to cry or oppressed,” she said.
