Sally Gerona, Vice President Leni Robredo’s mother, died on Saturday night, and she confirmed her passing in her Facebook account.
Robredo said Gerona was 83. She did not specify her ailment, but last month she said her condition had “turned for the worst.
Malacañang on Sunday expressed its condolences to Robredo.
“In this time of bereft, we also offer our thoughts and sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of Ms. Gerona, Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said.
He described Gerona as a selfless and dedicated teacher who molded countless of young minds across generations.
Gerona’s wake began Sunday in Naga City. The funeral details will be announced after a few days.
Robredo thanked the people who offered their prayers and sent their condolences.
According to the Office of the Vice President, Gerona, a teacher, served at the Universidad de Sta. Isabel in Naga, one of the oldest schools in the Philippines.
