‘Bising,’ habagat bring floods to 38 Luzon areas

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported Monday that 38 areas across Luzon experienced flooding caused by heavy rains from Typhoon Bising and the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat.

According to OCD officer-in-charge Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV, there have been no reports of casualties or missing individuals as of this writing.

“No major incident. No major floodings in a way as compared to the previous typhoons—the ‘KLMNOP,” Alejandro said in an interview.

He was referring to the consecutive tropical cyclones that hit the country in 2024—Kristine, Leon, Marce, Nila, Ofel, and Pepito.

“So, the effects are very minor at this point, like a practice,” Alejandro added.

The OCD is closely monitoring the situation in Pangasinan as the Agno River is at risk of overflowing, which could lead to further flooding in surrounding areas.

Alejandro also noted that assistance has been requested for 235 families in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur who were affected by the weather disturbances.

Typhoon Bising (international name ‘Danas’) is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Monday morning, according to PAGASA.
