Several family members of the “missing sabungeros” on Friday morning arrived at the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) main office to meet with Secretary Crispin Remulla and be updated on the status of the investigation into their loved ones’ disappearance.
“We are taking this opportunity to appeal to the DOJ to remain steadfast in its investigation and not abandon this case like what happened the last time,” Mary Joy Lopez, live-in partner of the missing Jayson Amoroto, told reporters in Filipino during an ambush interview.
She stressed that they strongly believe that the admissions of “Alyas Totoy,” whose real name is Julie Patidongan, were true.
Lopez also appealed to Filipino businessman and gaming industry tycoon, Charlie “Atong” Ang.
“We are appealing to his conscience. We hope he admits his involvement because this is the truth. What’s more, there is already proof against him,” she pointed out.
“Alyas Totoy’s statement was a big help [in unraveling the case]. We have been waiting for several years for a witness like him to surface,” she continued.
Earlier, Remulla said that he will be meeting the families of the ‘sabungeros’ to assure them that they will resolve the case as soon as possible but without sacrificing the legal processes that must be followed.
