President Marcos appealed to his countrymen to integrate patriotism, discipline and desire for excellence into their New Year’s resolutions this year.
In a vlog uploaded on Sunday, the Chief Executive shared his vision for a stronger, more unified Philippines by highlighting the qualities every Filipino should adopt to transform into better versions of themselves and help the nation rise.
He stressed that discipline begins with one’s self, at home, and even in the community by limiting time spent on gadgets and gossip, obeying traffic rules, and disposing of garbage properly.
“Self-disciplined, disciplined at home and disciplined on the streets. Discipline in handling gadgets, avoiding gossip, discipline in driving, speaking, and throwing of garbage,” the President said in Filipino as he tried to drive home his point.
Mr. Marcos also took advantage of the online platform to make a case for more patriotism.
“The “Bagong Pilipino” [New Filipino] is patriotic. They have a renewed sense of patriotism,” he said describing his vision of the ideal citizen.
The President also called on the public to embrace a culture of excellence, emphasizing that Filipinos should not settle for mediocrity.
“We are exceptional [by nature] so we should put it in our thinking. Now, what is good enough is not enough),” he said.
Mr. Marcos vowed to continuously support and honor Filipinos who excel in their chosen fields.
As for his personal New Year’s resolution, the President said he will make it a point to take better care of his health.
“Because of the amount of work I do, it’s really forbidden to get sick. It is forbidden not to go to work. It is absolutely forbidden to not have a clear and sound mind,” he said.
