President Ferdinand Marcos called on government agencies Sunday to spread the Christmas spirit across Filipino communities amid recent climate-related challenges.

During a gift-giving event in Malacañang, he reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ensuring a joyful holiday season despite adversities like El Niño, La Niña, and recent typhoons.

Marcos acknowledged the difficulties faced over the past year, highlighting the impact of drought and storms on agriculture.

“We have faced difficulties this past year. We have been hit by various challenges, starting with El Niño, which caused drought in our agriculture, followed by La Niña that brought numerous storms,” the President said.

“I hope we can just have a Merry Christmas. We have been given a little time, a chance to be with our loved ones, to celebrate a bit, to enjoy a little, and to eat plenty of lechon and ham. That is what Christmas means for Filipinos,” he added.

The President emphasized the significance of maintaining holiday customs, focusing on unity and happiness during this time.

He also thanked the Department of Social Welfare and Development for their efforts in fostering the Christmas spirit, especially during tough times.

The event, titled “Balik Sigla, Bigay Saya Year 3,” brought smiles to over 30,000 children nationwide.

This initiative, which began in 2022, collaborates with local governments and communities to provide gifts to those in need throughout the country.
