President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday inaugurated the newly built Sorsogon Sports Arena.
During the event, the President expressed his hopes that the sports arena would serve as the National Training Camp for athletes seeking international recognition, in line with the country’s drive to increase the number of Olympic competitors.
“This facility is a significant step toward honing the talents of our athletes, giving them the opportunity to further develop their skills,” Mr. Marcos said.
“Like our Olympians who competed in Paris in 2024, we aim to increase the number of Filipinos bringing honor to our country,” he added.
Beyond sports, the President noted the arena’s versatility.
The Sorsogon Sports Arena, with a seating capacity of 12,000 and modern amenities, can also host conferences, concerts, and other large events. The facility includes 139 rooms, two infirmaries, and an eight-lane track, offering a venue for various sports competitions and events.
Marcos emphasized that the arena symbolizes the Sorsogon province’s progress and its people’s dedication: “This stands as a testament to the perseverance and hard work of the Sorsoganons and Bicolanos.”
