Senator Sherwin Gatchalian said in a recent media forum in Manila that tracking down former workers of Guo Joanzhong, father of Bamban mayor Alice Guo, helped bolster the speculation that she may be a Chinese national.
During the search for the workers, the name Wen Yi came to their attention, who travelled 170 times in six years with the mayor’s father, the senator affirmed.
Earlier, Mayor Guo testified in the hearing of the Senate committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality, chaired by Sen. Risa Hontiveros, that they lived in a rented warehouse in Valenzuela when she was a teenager.
Gatchalian said the workers told them that the young Guo then introduced to them Wen Yi as her biological mother.
The senator said that based on his personal assessment, Wen Yi might be the biological mother of the mayor.
The senator also noted that the name of Wen Yi consistently cropped up during his investigation on Guo’s family. Her name is also included in the travel records of the mayor’ father.
“They always travel as a couple. So again, based on my investigation and asking around plus the documents, my personal analysis is that Wen Yi is the biological mother of the mayor,” he said.
The senator also pointed out the Bureau of Immigration (BI) records showing Wen Yi as a Chinese citizen carrying a Chinese passport.
“We also got her flight records from the BI,” he added.
The senator stressed that if the mayor’s father and mother are Chinese, then obviously, she is Chinese since the bloodline is being followed in our system.
Asked on their legal implications, Gatchalian said the mayor will no longer be Filipino in her birth certificate and passport. He further stated that the basis of her Filipino citizenship on her certificate of candidacy was the birth certificate.
Gatchalian said he will ask the mayor’s parents to attend the next hearing.
The senator emphasized that the mayor’s father lied in the birth certificate, insisting it wasn’t an error.
He said if there is an error, it is just one time and one birth certificate. This is constant information in four different birth certificates.
“It’s not a clerical error, it wasn’t forgotten. He declared it 4 times in 4 different birth certificates,” he explained.
She also emphasized that Sheila Guo, the sister of the mayor, is in all incorporation papers.
As of this writing, Senator Gatchalian has called on the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) to expel Mayor Guo due to alleged links to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) activities.
Gatchalian said on Wednesday that it is hard to believe that she is not in one way or the other involved in criminal activities in her hometown, including the operations of human trafficking and scam hubs.
Zun Yuan Technology Incorporated was raided in March for alleged illegal activities inside the Baofu Land Development Inc. compound in Bamban, Guo’s hometown.
At the Kapihan sa Manila Bay Forum, the senator, who is a member of the NPC advisory board, said the expulsion is also connected to her irregular and invalid birth certificate.
Senator Risa Hontiveros said that based on documents gathered from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the listed incorporators of Baofu Land Development Inc. include Guo, a Filipino named Rachel Joan Malonzo, Zhang Ruijin, a Chinese, Baoying Lin, a Dominican, and Zhiyang Huang, a Cypriot.
