Duterte duns Congress for P30-million bounty

President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday chided Congress for not yet releasing the promised P30-million bounty for the capture of the killers of the late AKO Bicol party-list Rep. Rodel Batocabe.

In his speech during the annual assembly of the Provincial Union of Leaders against Illegality, the President revealed he was the only one who released money in exchange for information on the killers of the slain lawmaker.

“In the Batocabe slay, the Congress has published to put up P30 million. So, I thought I should round off this and said, ‘Let’s make it P50 million. I will add P20 [million] for it to become P50 million.’ By the mercy of God, I was the only one who delivered the P20 million,” Duterte said in his speech.

“And Congress has not given the money yet. But me, after the arrest, I immediately gave it. I told [Philippine National Police chief Oscar] Albayalde, ‘You take care of this,’” he said.

Duterte said Congress should make good on its promise.

Batocabe was assassinated on Dec. 22 after attending a gift-giving ceremony for senior citizens in Daraga.
