Former Customs intelligence officer Jimmy Guban, who has been admitted to the government’s Witness Protection Program, will stay at an undisclosed safe house while testifying in the criminal cases that may be filed over the smuggling in of P11 billion worth of shabu.

WPP officers escorted Guban out of the Senate where he had been detained after being cited in contempt, in connection with the Senate Blue Ribbon inquiry into the drug smuggling at the Bureau of Customs.

On Tuesday, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Guban was admitted into the WPP after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered him arrested over the smuggled shabu shipment.

Guevarra said since Guban is covered by the WPP, he will stay at an undisclosed safe house with his own security.

“He will be protected until he testifies in court and threats to his personal safety have become manageable,” Guevarra said in a text message.

Guban, who testified at a Senate committee hearing on the entry of P11 billion worth of smuggled shabu into the country, appeared to have backpedaled on an earlier claim that he was involved in the operation.

He earlier accused Eduardo Acierto, a dismissed police senior superintendent, of being behind the smuggled shabu shipment that was hidden inside magnetic lifters.
