ACTS OFW Party-list Rep. John Bertiz III said Tuesday he will have himself investigated by the House of Representatives’ committee on ethics in light of his alleged bullying of an airport personnel at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 on Saturday.

He made the statement even as the Gabriela Women’s Party on Tuesday slammed him for his remarks against women’s regular menstrual cycle.

The group’s Emmi de Jesus said Gabriela and other women’s advocates do not have any problems with the regular menstrual cycle but her group was alarmed by Bertiz’s display of arrogance, which De Jesus said was unacceptable.“Women should not be stereotyped as arrogant and entitled during their menstrual period,” De Jesus, a member of the Makabayan Bloc, said.

The ACTS Teachers party-list on Tuesday also slammed Bertiz for his arrogance in breaching airport protocols.

Benjamin Valbuena, the party-list’s second nominee for the 2019 congressional elections, said Bertiz violated the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees when he displayed arrogance and showed an airport security personnel his security pass when the latter asked him to remove his shoes at the NAIA Terminal 2 on Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, Airport and transportation authorities on Tuesday reminded air travelers to comply with strict security protocols at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, saying the measure was being enforced to prevent untoward incidents at the facility and ensure the safety of passengers.

The Manila International Airport Authority and the Office for Transportation Security made the reminder following an incident involving Bertiz who was caught on a video, showing him not following the screening procedure at the NAIA Terminal 2.

Bertiz said he will initiate the filing of a resolution calling for an investigation by the House ethics committee over the NAIA incident.

“I acted voluntarily to file [a resolution] with the help of the Committee on Ethics to have a motu proprio investigation on the incident for my behavior,” said Bertiz who earlier admitted that what he did was inappropriate and uncalled for.

The House ethics committee, led by Agri Party-list Rep. Delphine Gan Lee, scheduled Wednesday its probe on the airport incident involving Bertiz.

At the same time, Bertiz, member of the House minority bloc, said he was inclined to surrender the security identification card issued to congressmen, senators and other high officials.

“I said to [NAIA] General Manager [Ed] Monreal that I will have my security ID surrendered.  I do not want my fellow congressmen and other holders of the ID be dragged into [my mess],” he said. With Rio N. Araja and Joel E. Zurbano“‹
