The damage to agriculture and infrastructure caused by the southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Cyclones “Henry,” “Inday” and “Josie”  totaled P1,37 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Wednesday.

DISASTER DAMAGE. In this Twitter photo from Joy Tajonera, parts of the Occidental Mindoro capital of Mamburao remain under floodwaters—at the same time that the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council says damage to agriculture and infrastructure caused by three typhoons this month P1.37 billion.

The agency also said eight people were killed and one was injured while another went missing after several days of heavy monsoon rain.

Meanwhile, the weather bureau said only occasional rain will persist in Metro Manila as the tropical storm with the international name “Jongdari” outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility was too far to enhance the southwest monsoon.

The damage caused by the southwest monsoon may be broken down into P896,721,105 for agriculture and P480,369,000 for infrastructure, Disaster Council executive director Ricardo Jalad said.

Damage was reported in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4A (Calabarzon), 4B (Mimaropa), 6, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

Jalad said 99 road sections and eight bridges were affected by inclement weather in Regions 1, 3, 4A, 4B, 6, CAR and NCR. With Rio N. Araja
