THE Metro Manila Development Authority on Friday advised commuters and motorists to brace for traffic gridlock in some parts of Caloocan, Pasig and Quezon City this weekend after it allowed the Department of Public Works and Highways to resume its re-blocking operation and road repairs.

The MMDA’s public information office said Public Works will do its road re-blocking and repairs starting 11 p.m. on July 28 until July 31 in the following areas:

 Quezon City:

-2nd southbound lane of Bonifacio Avenue from Malindang Street to Labo Street.

-2nd southbound lane of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue near Roosevelt Avenue

-3rd northbound lane of Congressional Avenue from Tandang Sora Avenue to Luzon Avenue

-2nd northbound lane of Quirino Highway from Urbano to Mindanao Avenue

-1st westbound lane of Luzon Avenue from Commonwealth Avenue and Congressional Avenue Extension.

Pasig City:

Caloocan City:

-Along the northbound lane of MacArthur Highway near the Monumento Circle

“All affected roads will be fully passable by 5 a.m. on Monday, July 31. Motorists are advised to avoid the said areas and use alternate routes instead,” the MMDA said in its advisory.

Public Works resumed its operations after MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim allowed the department to proceed with the road works.

The government is implementing a policy prohibiting diggings and other road works at daytime in a bid to ease traffic in Metro Manila.

The ban on road works at daytime came following the MMDA’s meeting with officials of the Departments of Transportation and Public Works and Highways to further improve the flow of traffic in the National Capital Region.

Under the policy, road repairs and rehabilitation work on the major thoroughfares must be done by contractors around 10 p.m. to make sure the road will be passable to motorists by 5 a.m. the next day.

To do this, the government agencies will be requiring contractors to use quick dry cement on the road works to meet the one-day curing period.
