Duterte: Support PH movie industry

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte urged Filipinos to spend the holidays supporting the Filipino movie industry by watching the Metro Manila Film Festival set to run from December 25 to Janauary 3.

“I will urge you, [I am inviting you] to watch the Manila Film Festival. This is a beautiful event. I will also be there. We will be together,” the President said in a short video clip posted by Film Development Council of the Philippines chairman Liza Diño.

The movie-going public will welcome the “change” in this year’s lineup of Metro Manila Film Festival with eight competing films—Die Beautiful, Ang Babae Septic Tank 2, Kabisera, Seklusyon, Saving Sally, Vince and Kath and James, Oro and Sunday Beauty Queen away from the usual light of “mainstream” and commercialized film fest.

Diño told a Malacañang news briefing: “It’s a unifying and very diverse yet concerted efforts from all [our] entries.

“And it’s really a landmark opportunity for our independent film producers to have the exposure and the platform to showcase their films, especially this Christmas, we know what advantage we would have if our film festival is truly for local films.”

“So we’re very proud and I hope you will support this move towards an even better edition of the Metro Manila Film Festival,” she said.
