The Philippines on Wednesday condemned the bombing of the St. Peter’s Church in Cairo over the weekend which killed 25 civilians and injured dozens others.

“The Philippines condemns in strongest terms the terrorist attacks in Egypt over the weekend, especially that on the St. Peter’s Church in Cairo,” the Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

“Such heinous acts of violence in a place of worship have no place in society,” the DFA added.

On Tuesday, the Islamic State terrorist group claimed responsibility for the bombing, one of the worst attacks on the Coptic Christian community.

ISIS identified the suicide bomber who carried out Sunday’s attack by the pseudonym Abu Abdallah al-Masri.

The bomber “got in between the crowd” and detonated his explosive belt, the jihadist group said.

ISIS warned it would continue to launch attacks in Egypt, where the security situation has worsened since the July 2013 ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.

“We continue to stand with Egypt and the international community against terrorism in all its forms,” the DFA said.

“The Filipino people are one with Egypt as it recovers from these senseless tragedies, with the hope that the perpetrators are brought swiftly to justice,” it added.
