THE Manila International Airport Authority will launch Sept. 23 its Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) access project to give passengers and stakeholders uninterruptible internet connection at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Jesus Martines, head of the MIAA Media Affairs Division, said the program will be attended by PLDT Smart Co. officials led by Manny Pangilinan, MIAA general manager Eddie Villanueva Monreal, Police-Aviation Security Group director Mao Aplasca, airlines executives and Department of Transportation Secretary Arturo Tugade.

The project came on the heels of the agreement of the Airport authority with PLDT Smart Communications to upgrade internet access at the country’s premier international airport.

Martinez said many arriving and departing passengers from the past were reacting the slow internet connections at the main gateway compared to airports abroad. He added the passengers are complaining of poor internet connection provided by another service provider.

Globe Telecom on February 2012 provides free Wi-Fi for passengers in four terminals of Ninoy Aquino International Airport in partnership with the Airport Authority.

It allows passengers to work online, check email or travel itineraries and surf the internet while waiting for their flights.

The Globe Telecom free Wi-Fi still available at the four Airport terminals as well as at the MIAA’s administration building.

The Wi-fi project is one of the numerous reforms and improvement projects initiated by Monreal upon assumption of office last July to better serve the passengers and airports users of the four terminals of the country’s premier airport.

Also among the reforms introduced was the reactivation of the Airport Security Center in close coordination with Aviation Security Group.
