FORMER Makati Mayor Junjun Binay on Monday pleaded not guilty to the malversation, graft and falsification of public documents charges leveled against him in connection with charges he is facing in connection with the allegedly overpriced P2.28-billion Makati City parking building.

Binay appeared at the Sandiganbayan Third Division asked the anti-graft court that he be allowed to travel to the United States from August 14 to 24 as he has to accompany his six-year-old daughter who is seeking a medical check-up.

Binay faces four counts of violation of Section 3 (e) of Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, six counts of falsification of public documents as defined under Article 171 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC), and one count of malversation or violation of Article 217 of the Revised Penal Code, in connection with the alleged overpriced Makati parking building.

The Ombudsman had earlier ruled there was a probable cause to file graft, malversation and falsification of public documents cases before the Sandiganbayan against the former vice president, his son and 22 other officials of the Makati parking building, citing “flagrant anomalies” being committed by the Binays and his cohorts.
