INCOMING Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon said Friday he will urge the transacting public to use the social media to catch the crooks at the Bureau of Customs, which is considered one of the most corrupt government agencies.

Faeldon, a former Marine, assumes his post on July 1. He was President-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s personal choice to head Customs.

Faeldon said he will install surveillance cameras in all the bureau’s offices and stream the video on the internet to stop corruption in the agency.

He also plans to limit the physical transaction between Customs officers and importers.

He wants the bureau to be like a bank where customers cannot choose who to do business with.

He is giving himself 45 days to “renovate” the agency’s structure.

Customs has consistently failed its collection targets, with the last year’s collection of P366.9 billion failing to meet the target by 16 percent.
