ENDO hits over 1,000 DSWD workers

Over 1,000 temporary workers of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the Cordillera region are losing their jobs.

This is because their six-month contracts with the DSWD have ended.

Local authorities see no solution to the current situation.

They say the regional office had sought an annual budget of P 7 billion but only P 5 billion was approved.

As a result, funds for the contractual workers were removed.

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) in Cordillera says, national government has yet to come up with a policy for personnel covered by the so-called end-of-contract (ENDO) system.

Under ENDO, jobs of workers are terminated and renewed every after six months.

DSWD heavily relies on contractual workers to implement its services in the provinces.

The General Appropriations Act of 2018 gives the DSWD a total budget of P 141.8 billion.

Government employs about 25,000 temporary workers across the country.
