BDO Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of BDO Unibank, has rehabilitated Allen Rural Health Unit in Northern Samar as part of its rehabilitation program in provinces severely affected by disasters.

The rural health unit was damaged in 2015 by Typhoon “Nona” (international name “Melor”), considered one of the strongest to make landfall in the province.

The health center was inaugurated and turned over in an event attended by BDO Eastern Visayas area head Albert Chu, BDO Foundation program director Rose Espinosa, and BDO Samar-Catarman branch head Hazel Divinosa, who recommended the health center to the foundation and assisted in coordinating with local officials.

Residents of Allen, Northern Samar join local government officials and representatives of BDO Foundation in celebrating the rehabilitation of their Rural Health Unit, which benefits over 26,000 people in the area hit by Typhoon ‘Nona’ in 2015.

Local officials were represented by Allen Mayor Laureana Suan, Vice Mayor Arturo Dubongco Jr., and Municipal Health Officer Dr. Daisy Abasolo.

BDO Foundation rehabilitated the health unit’s offices, clinics, consultation rooms, treatment rooms and facilities, as well as its spaces for children and senior citizens.

The foundation refurbished its birthing facilities and breastfeeding station so mothers and babies “are afforded the best care possible,” said Espinosa.  The improvements will enable doctors and nurses to provide patient care more effectively, she added.

Allen Rural Health Unit benefits more than 26,000 people in 20 barangays. The health center averages approximately 22 births per month.
