The provincial government of Cavite will strictly implement its number-coding traffic scheme on Feb. 1, giving erring motorists warning tickets if they violate Provincial Ordinance 164 until then.

Jan. 9 to 31 is considered the dry run period for Cavite’s Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction System, but motorists can still expect to incur the regular penalties and charges for other traffic violations, the provincial government warned.

The penalty on any person violating the provincial ordinance is P300.

The areas covered by Cavite’s number-coding scheme are from Aguinaldo Highway, covering the stretch of Bacoor to the Dasmariñas and Silang boundaries; Governor’s Drive, covering the stretch of Carmona to Trece Martires City to Tanza boundary; Molino Salawag to Paliparan Road, from Zapote to, Bacoor, Paliparan, and Dasmariñas; Molino Boulevard; and Daang Hari Road, covering the stretch of Aguinaldo Highway from Imus to Molino in Bacoor.

Similar to the traffic scheme enforced in Metro Manila, vehicles restricted from passing through Cavite’s main roads are those with plate numbers 1 and 2 on Mondays, 3 and 4 on Tuesdays, 5 and 6 on Wednesdays, 7 and 8 on Thursdays, and 9 and 0 on Fridays.

The scheme will be in force from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., affecting all private cars and vans, trucks (except those covered by truck bans), and motorcycles with license plates or conduction stickers ending in the numbers noted above on their scheduled banned days.

All public utility vehicles, including jeepneys and buses, are exempted from the scheme, along with ambulances, fire trucks, police patrol cars, and military vehicles with permanent markings. Privately owned ambulances and fire trucks which are properly marked are also exempted from the ban.

Vehicles carrying persons needing immediate medical attention, government vehicles with government plates, vehicles delivering perishable goods in commercial quantities, which include fresh vegetables, fruits and flowers, raw meat and fresh seafoods; ice products, baked products with shelf life of 24 hours, medicines and vaccines expiring within 24 hours and cooked food for catering are also exempted.

Also free under the scheme are vehicles used by medical practitioners in an emergency; duly franchised school buses and company shuttle service vehicles; and vehicles on missions to carry relief goods to calamity or highly depressed areas.
