Erring Davao night mart vendors delisted

Mayor Sara Duterte has ordered the delisting of Roxas Avenue night market vendors who continued to violate the local government’s rules and regulations.

“We have already given them a chance, but if they still refuse to follow our rules, we are left with no choice but to strike them from the list,” Duterte said.

The Davao City Transportation and Traffic Management Office was tasked to implement the order.

CTTMO chief Rhodelio Poliquit said they have been monitoring minor violations since the night market was reopened on August 13.

Poliquit declared the CTTMO will not tolerate violations, no matter how minor.

He said there are vendors who go beyond the designated line of stalls, but CTTMO personnel are always there to monitor day-to-day operations and compliance with City Hall’s night market policies and regulations.

Poliquit said today’s Roxas night market is much better than it was before although it is far from being perfect.

It can be recalled that the mayor ordered the shutdown of the night market on August 3 upon the recommendation of the CTTMO chief due to several violations.

Among the violations were: refusal to follow the “one-family-one-stall” rule; vendors’ insistence on their preferred locations and presence of stalls that are run by financiers, but managed by dummies; vendors sub-leasing stalls; claims that vendors were able to buy or secure rights/permits over preferred stalls; and the presence of illegal vendors.
