ZAMBOANGA CITY—The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) of the Department of Labor and Employment recently approved a daily salary increase of P16 for workers and P500 monthly for household helpers in Zamboanga Peninsula, a labor executive  here said.

Sisinio Cano, DoLE regional director and RTWPB chairman, said the board has issued Wage Order 18 implementing the salary increment for the two groups of workers.

Cano stressed the wage hike, which was reviewed by the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC), was “based on the series of consultations the board had earlier undertaken as well as on the consumer price index, the inflation rate and purchasing power.”

Under the new wage order, he said, compensation of non-agriculture sector workers including those in private hospitals, educational institutions, security agencies, janitorial and retail/service establishments with 30 or more employees, will go up from P280 to P296 daily.

Cano added the daily wage hikes of the other sectors are as follows:  plantation agricultural enterprises, from P255 to P271; non-plantation agricultural enterprises, from P235 to P251, and retail service establishments are leveled to P283 by end-October next year.
