CAMP ABELON, Pagadian City—A newly elected municipal councilor and a member of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) were shot dead by unidentified armed men on Friday afternoon at Barangay Nian, Dinas  town, this city, police said.

A belated report received here by Senior Supt. Michael Nicolas, police provincial director, identified the fatalities as  Rodelio Digan, 48, a resident of barangay Guiniculalay, who was recently installed a member of the Dinas Sangguniang Bayan, and Angelito Baul, 35, a militiaman-neighbor.

An unconfirmed report said Digan and Baul were riding in tandem on the former’s motorcycle when a group of three armed men hiding behind a bush fired at them at Barangay East Migpulao.

Both Nicolas and Baul, who suffered gunshot wounds in different parts of their bodies, later died at the Dinas Emergency Hospital where concerned passersby took them when the suspects fled.

In a related development, a 57-year-old man was strangled to death by his wife last Saturday after a serious quarrel in their house at Barangay Betinan, San Miguel town.
