DAVAO CITY—Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio filed Friday a 22-day leave starting on the first day of her term, her brother, Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, announced, even as he refused to reveal the reason.
The vice mayor said his sister instructed him to review all pending contracts of job order employees and other related documents “so that there will be no vacuum in the government service.”
“I was designated to prepare the annual 2017 budget, review the Kadayawan preparations and ensure the continuity of all pending projects,” he said.
Paolo said that Sara would make the announcement herself in a possible press conference on Monday.
The vice mayor said the mayor’s leave has nothing to do with anything about Malacañang.
When Sara assumes the office on July 23, it will be the first time that the two siblings will work together as the top two officials of Davao City.
In 2010-2013, Paolo was the Barangay Captain of Catalunan Grande when Sara was the City Mayor of Davao, Rodrigo was the Vice Mayor.
The following election, Sara left the public office, while Paolo run for the Vice Mayoral post and Rodrigo returned as Mayor of the City.
