‘Crackers seized by police in raids

La Trinidad, Benguet—-Authorities seized assorted illegal firecrackers to prevent loss of lives and damage to properties amid revelry to usher in the New Year.

In Abra, Senior Supt. Albertlito S. Gaarcia, police provincial chief, said 71 packs and 35 pieces of prohibited firecrackers were confiscated along the road of Barangay Talogtog, Dolores town by a team led by Supt. Reguel B. Sta. Maria.

The inventory included 53 packs Pop-pop; one pack Spirit Whip; six packs Piccolo; one pack Pili Cracker; five Roman Candles; six Kwitis; one pack Happy Ball; nine packs Sparklers; and 24 Special Lusis which were being sold by a group of minors who abandone the merchandize when the police arrived.

In Mountain Province, Senior Supt. Oliver Enmodias, police provincial chief, said prohibited firecrackers were seized  from Flouquet Peyes Geronilla, 39, businesswoman, a resident of Poblacion, Bontoc,following a raid in the public market.

Other banned pyrotechnics were confiscated from Nancy Engngeg Baloran, 34, of Poblacion;  Monaliza Kiaki Olod, 34, of Samoki; Michelle Astudillo, 24, of Omfeg, Bontoc Ili; and Lito Jose Ronquillo, 47, of Loc-ong, Poblacion.

In Kalinga,Senior Supt. Victor Wanchakan, police provincial chief, said a crackdown on illegal firecrackers was made by Tabuk City Police Station, BFP Tabuk and POSO inside the Dagupan Public Market.

In Lingayen, Pangasinan police chief Senior Supt. Reynaldo Biay and the Bureau of Fire Protection disposed of illegal firecrackers by burying them.

Supt. Ferdinand de Asis, information officer, said the banned pyrotechnics from Dagupan City, Malasiqui, and Bayambang police stations were mostly  Piccolo and watusi.

He said vacation leaves have been cancelled and police officers were required to be on duty during the holidays.
