Aksyon Demokratiko presidential candidate and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso on Thursday said his decision to vote for President Rodrigo Duterte as senator and adopt him as his party’s 4th senatorial candidate in 2022 elections is based on his conviction and should not be construed as a sign of him being the administration’s “secret candidate.”

“I am a candidate for Aksyon Demokratiko. While it is true that we heard that Senator Bong Go withdrew (from the presidential race), when I was asked about the Senate slate for President Duterte, I will vote personally because of his achievements that are beneficial here in Manila, ”Moreno told DZRH in an interview.

“Then I was asked if I would include him on the slate or be adopted as a guest candidate, I said I’ll be honored and humbled if the President will join (our slate). But what I said is, I don’t want to lead the President or PDP-Laban for that matter. In fairness to them, there is no such thing,” Moreno clarified.

Moreno first made his personal position on President Duterte’s senatorial bid known in an ambush interview in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu last Monday.

Aksyon Demokratiko Party chairperson Ernest Ramel issued a statement supporting the position taken by their party president and standard bearer.

“We stand by the pronouncement of our Party President and standard-bearer. Aksyon has taken a centrist and objective stand on many issues and is not an opposition party per se. We believe that there are current administration policies and programs worth continuing while there are some that can be improved, discontinued, or rectified. Add to that, Aksyon is willing to work with anyone that supports Mayor Isko’s Bilis Kilos programs,” Ramel said.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domaogoso yesterday exhorted the public to support the city government’s efforts to help small businesses and create job opportunities as well.

He called on the public to visit the ‘Paskuhan sa Maynila’ at the Mehan Garden near the Manila City Hall.

Domagoso and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna also told them, especially Manilans, to back up the small entrepreneurs at the ‘Paskuhan’ event which will last until January 1 next year.

Domagoso said the event features about 70 exhibitors selling various kinds of gift items and food at very low prices.

He said the retail stores are offering shirts, dresses, toys, accessories, perfumery, souvenirs, and power tools, apart from different kinds of food that include native delicacies, Eng Bee Tin hopia varieties, a grilling and shawarma station as well as Thai, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Filipino dishes.

Aksyon Demokratiko, which is headed by Moreno as party president, is the first political party to formally ask President Duterte to be an adopted senatorial candidate.

At present, Aksyon Demokratiko has three senatorial candidates: Samira Gutoc, a women’s rights advocate from Marawi City; Dr. Carl Balita, a registered nurse and midwife and an educator and Jopet Sison, a former Quezon City Councilor.
