Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has vowed to provide P10,000 cash assistance to each family who lost their belongings to a fire that razed a residential area in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City, on November 26.

Domagoso flew to Cebu recently and checked on the condition of the more than 900 displaced families, now living in temporary shelters at the Alaska Mambaling Elementary School and Mambaling

Barangay Hall gymnasium, according to a press statement obtained by the Manila Standard..

This means a total P9 million for at least 900 families.

In his visit to the fire victims, Domagoso was accompanied by Cebu 3rd District Rep. Pablo John Garcia, who also joined the Manila mayor during his “listening tour” around the province back in November.

Domagos, the standard bearer of Aksyon Demokratiko, told the affected families each family would be given P10,000 and hoped the fire victims would be able to use the money to rebuild their houses.

Speaking in Filipino, he said, jokingly, “Wag n’yo ipangto-tong-its ha? Ibili n’yo ng yero para sa bubong at plywood para sa dingding.”

Data from the Cebu City government’s Department of Social Welfare and Services disclosed that the fire in Mambaling displaced 944 families or more than 2,200 individuals.

During the same visit, Domagoso was asked by the local media for his insights on Cebu’s support for his presidential bid.

Domagoso said he would need Cebu’s support in pushing his presidential campaign.

“I am asking for all kinds of support, especially if I can have the support of One Cebu. It is a known fact that Cebuanos are always united,” he said.

In November, Rep. PJ Garcia said the party was seriously considering endorsing Domagoso’s presidential bid, saying the Manila mayor had displayed more concern for the people of Cebu than any of the candidates.
