The Manila International Airport Authority has commended an employee for honesty after he turned over to airport management a bag containing $10,000 or more than half a million pesos.

Airport building attendant Jhun Telewik was on duty collecting garbage at the departure area of Ninoy Aquino International Airport – Terminal 2 around 11:30 am of Nov. 27 when he saw a bag in one of the chairs.

Telewik initially ignored the bag and left the place. But when he came back, the bag was still there unattended, prompting him to call the assistance from Philippine Airlines ground attendants and sought for the owner through the terminal paging system.

Despite numerous announcements, no one came forward to claim nor inquire about the bag.

Telewik then proceeded to MIAA’s Lost and Found section for recording and documentation. During inventory, it was discovered that the bag contained a huge amount of cash and other personal belongings.

“I didn’t think about the amount. I thought more about the owner because maybe he or she needed this (money) for more important thing,” said Telewik.

Two days after, the airport management gave the bag to the person who had with him supporting documents to prove that his father is the rightful owner of the bag.

Out of gratitude, and for his show of honesty, Telewik was handed $100 by the claimant.

MIAA general manager Eddie Monreal commended the building attendant for his honesty and integrity in line of duty.

“Despite the hardships brought about by the pandemic, there are people like Mr. Telewik who remain honest and trustworthy in their field of work. I salute Mr. Telewik for his great honesty. I am sure there are still more equally dedicated workers in our midst here in NAIA,” said Monreal.

Telewik has been in the service since 2017 as an airport building attendant from Front Runners Property Maintenance and General Services Corporation, a MIAA service contractor.
