Aksyon Demokratiko standard bearer and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Tuesday said he would not refuse an endorsement from President Rodrigo Duterte should the chief executive decide to raise his hand now that Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has withdrawn from the presidential race.
“I will not refuse. Beggars cannot be choosy,” he said in an interview with reporters.
“If they will choose me, thank you, thank you in advance. But I do not want to get ahead of myself until they say so. For the meantime, I am always hopeful. I will wait until they decide they like me as their candidate,” Domagoso added
The Manila mayor, who placed third in a recent SWS survey among presidential bets, next to former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos and Vice President Leni Robredo, said he needs all the help he can get at this point.
“I have been honest that I need help. I need allies, loyalists, believers, followers and volunteers,” he said.
Meanwhile, at least a thousand motorcycle riders in blue, consisting of the whole Metro Manila fleet of motorcycle taxi hailing service firm Angkas, along with members of the Young Entrepreneurs Supporting Isko Moreno (YES Isko), gathered Tuesday at the Bonifacio Shrine as a show of support for Domagoso’s presidential bid.
The 47-year-old Domagoso engaged the group in a dialogue to hear the problems they face amid the pandemic, as well as their other grievances.
Moreno thanked them for the assistance they provided to Manila City’s medical front liners, as well as their full support to past “Blue Wave” caravans.
During the modified lockdown in the capital region in August last year, Angkas partnered with Moreno to provide medical front liners in the city of Manila with free motorcycle rides and face shields as part of its continuing campaign to assist healthcare workers.
Angkas bikers were deployed to the city’s six district hospitals — Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center, Ospital ng Maynila, Ospital ng Sampaloc, Ospital ng Tondo, Sta. Ana Hospital, and Justice Jose Abad Santos Memorial Hospital — to ferry medical frontliners after their shift.
