SCHOLARSHIPS FOR FISHERFOLK. Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco, Congressman John Rey Tiangco, and other officials signed a memorandum of agreement providing scholarships to Navoteño students from fisherfolk families. The Ulirang Pamilyang Mangingisda Scholarship is given to family members of registered fisherfolk who won at the annual search for the Top Ten Most Outstanding Fisherfolk. Three college and four high school students have qualified for the Ulirang Pamilyang Mangingisda Scholarship under the Navotas Scholarship Program.

The Ulirang Pamilyang Mangingisda Scholarship is given to family members of registered fisherfolks who won at the annual search for the Top Ten Most Outstanding Fisherfolk.

“Education is the best gift parents can give their children. We know that Navoteno fisherfolks also think that way and we are here to help them fulfill their aspirations for their children,” Mayor Toby Tiangco said.

“We hope to give the children and other family members of our registered fisherfolks the opportunity to finish their education, achieve their dreams, and create a better future,” he added.

Scholars, on the other hand, are expected to attend their classes and school activities, maintain at least a passing grade, and fulfill other undertakings.

The scholarship is renewable yearly, depending on the compliance of the beneficiary to the terms and conditions set by the city government.

Navotas established the program in 2018 and has since had 25 beneficiaries.

The city government also gives academic scholarship to students who excelled in their studies and teachers who want to pursue graduate school, as well as athletic and art scholarships. The programs were launched in 2011, 2016, and 2017, respectively.
