Workaholic Rody may not retire yet from politics – Bato

President Rodrigo Duterte may still run for an elective position for the 2022 elections, Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa said Tuesday.

Dela Rosa, the standard bearer of a faction of the ruling party PDP-Laban, said Duterte, being the workaholic that he is, will likely not leave politics yet despite announcing his retirement earlier.

“That’s what I think of him because President Duterte seems like a workaholic, he’d rather continue working until he dies because he does not want any idle moments. He wants to dedicate his remaining life to serving the country,” he told CNN Philippines in an interview.

Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi earlier said he is convincing Duterte to run for senator to strengthen their slate.

“Sometimes he wants to retire, sometimes he wants to run. Let’s leave him to his own choice,” Dela Rosa said.

Cusi earlier wanted Senator Christopher Go to run for president in tandem with Duterte, but the latter announced he will retire from politics next year.

Go instead ran for vice president as Dela Rosa’s running mate.

Meanwhile, Dela Rosa said he is not threatened by the pronouncement of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte that she will help former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in his presidential bid in 2022.

“What Mayor Inday said is she will find ways and means to support the candidacy of Senator Bongbong. It is normal to find ways to help a friend who is running for an elective post. But she did not say, ‘I will support you 100 percent, Senator Bongbong, and I will dump 100 percent Senator Bato.’ She did not say anything like that. So, I am not insecure,” Dela Rosa said.

“And Let’s be clear. Former Senator Bongbong and I are not enemies. We are allies. That’s clear. There’s no problem between us,” he added.
