Supporters of presidential aspirants Vice President Leni Robredo and Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso held motorcades and rallies on Saturday, while labor leaders Leody de Guzman and Walden Bello unveiled their platform for the 2022 elections.
Thousands of Robredo and Sen. Kiko Pangilinan supporters, or “kakamPINKs” held a nationwide simultaneous motorcade on Saturday, declaring that the Vice President was the most qualified and ready to serve “from then until now.”
Organized by Team Leni Robredo (TLR), the official volunteer arm of the VP’s presidential campaign, the motorcade “took inspiration from various grassroots volunteer-initiated motorcades held in towns across the country to show support for her brand of leadership.”
Boats in Cebu and in Boracay, bikes in Iloilo, tractors in Tacloban, and extensive motorcade participation in northern provinces such as Pangasinan gathered at least 10,000 vehicles across 50 cities nationwide. Metro Manila alone accounted for at least 2,000 vehicles, TLR said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Antiqueños have thrown their full support behind Domagoso, saying their own son has the competence and right skills to lead the country. The mayor’s father, Joaquin Domagoso, hails from the town of Hamtic Jose in Antique.
The elder Domagoso tried his luck in Manila in the 1960s and worked as a stevedore in the ports of Manila. He met and fell in love with Rosario “Chayong” Moreno, a native of Allen, Northern Samar, who bore him a son named Francisco Moreno Domagoso, according to the statement released by the mayor’s media bureau.
Antique Board Member Vincent Hernandez Piccio III said the people of Antique province and the whole Western Visayas region stand behind Moreno and his vice-presidential candidate Dr. Willie Ong in their quest to lead the country toward inclusive growth and sustainable economic development.
Piccio made the statement during the launching of the Ikaw Muna (IM) Pilipinas Antique chapter held at the Casa Agusta in San Jose de Buenavista in Antique province.
Meanwhile, the Laban ng Masa party fielding the tandem of de Guzman Bello on Saturday laid down their platform for the 2022 elections, anchored on “real reforms” in the areas of economic, political and social development.
“Leody and I offer a tough program of real reform that cannot succeed unless most of our people rally behind it to defy the rich and the powerful that will lose because of it,” Bello said.
Ending contractualization, imposing a wealth tax on the country’s rich families, setting a P750 national minimum wage, increasing the wages of healthcare and frontline workers in the COVID-19 pandemic, and providing free healthcare for all are among the party’s electoral platform.
“Ka Leody has offered very well thought of proposals to address the multi-dimensional health crisis, economic crisis, political crisis that our country is undergoing,” Bello said.
