Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio maintained Friday she is seeking reelection in the May 2022 elections, despite persistent calls from her supporters to seek the presidency.

On the final day of filing of certificates of candidacy, Duterte-Carpio’s supporters trooped to the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila in Pasay City to urge the mayor to run for president and succeed her father.

But in her latest statement, “Inday Sara” insisted she will seek a third term in Davao City.

“I am presenting myself to the Dabawenyos as mayor for the third and last time in my life as a politician. I call on everyone to work together for an honest, orderly, and credible elections in May 2022,” she said in a Facebook post.

The mayor again thanked her supporters, noting that many of them do not know her apart from being the daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte, yet they carry her over their shoulders.

“I have been honored with the gift of trust and respect of many of our fellow Filipinos. A gift that is one in a million. Thank you to everyone who has expressed their support,” she said.

The mayor filed her candidacy for reelection in Davao City last Saturday.

On the same day, President Rodrigo Duterte said his daughter will run for president and Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, who filed his COC for vice president, will be her running mate.
