House Majority Leader and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin G. Romualdez on Friday mourned the passing of former Northern Samar Rep. Emil Ong.

“We extend our condolences to his family and loved ones. May you find peace in knowing that he is now back to the loving embrace of our Father. Rest now Cong. Emil,” said Romualdez, chairman of the House committee on rules and president of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats.

The valuable service of Ong to the people will never be forgotten, the lawyer from the University of the Philippines and president of the Philippine Constitution Association (Philconsa) said.

“Hindi po makakalimutan ang kanyang ‘di matatawarang paglilingkod para sa kapakanan ng kanyang mga minamahal na kababayan,” Romualdez said. “Alay po natin ang ating taos-pusong panalangin para sa namayapang ama ng Ikalawang Distrito ng Northern Samar.”

“I am deeply saddened by the news that our good friend, Rep. Emil Ong, has left us to join his Creator. My sympathies go out to the loves of his life — his family, friends and constituents in Northern Samar,” added Tingog party-list Rep. Yedda Marie K. Romualdez, chairperson of the House committee on the welfare of children.

The Romualdez couple said Ong will be terribly missed by his colleagues and constituents, where he devoted his public life crafting legislation that aimed to improve the people’s living condition.

The House of Representatives led by Speaker Lord Allan Velasco also grieved the demise of Ong.

“Our heartfelt prayers and sympathies to the family and loved ones he has left behind,” the Speaker said.

Ong was a member of the 14th, 15th and 16th Congresses and was replaced by his brother, Northern Samar Rep. Jose Ong Jr.
