Go says still ‘uninterested’ in prexy bid

Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go on Thursday appealed to his partymates in the ruling PDP-Laban to respect his decision not to run for president along with President Rodrigo Duterte, who will seek the vice presidency in the 2022 elections.

While expressing his gratitude to his partymates for their trust and support, Go repeated—hours after the party’s national assembly in Pampanga on Wednesday—that he remained uninterested in joining the presidential race.

Instead, Go urged his fellow party members to support people “who are keen on running and share Duterte’s political will to continue the change he has already begun.”

Go said the ongoing coronavirus pandemic will prove to be challenging for the next president, which is why he is committed to assisting them in helping the country recover from it.

The former presidential aide said he had already respectfully declined the party’s endorsement through a letter he sent earlier.

Addressing party president and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi in a letter on August 30, Go said he was “deeply honored by the trust and confidence” of PDP-Laban to be endorsed as its presidential candidate and run with President Duterte as his vice presidential candidate.

The senator, however, emphasized that he respectfully declined the endorsement.

Go reiterated that the party would continue to have his full support and assured that he will continue to serve the Filipino people.

He also urged Filipinos to continue supporting President Duterte, who remains determined to lead the country in overcoming the COVID-19 crisis.

Go reiterated that he leaves his fate “to God, to the Dutertes, and to the Filipino people to whom he owes the privilege of being able to serve the country.”

During the national assembly organized by the Cusi wing, PDP-Laban declared its nomination of Go as their standard bearer with Duterte as his running mate.
