Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte attained the highest approval rating among Metro Manila Mayors with 86 percent in the latest "NCR Halalan 2022 survey" conducted by the RP-Mission and Development Foundation Inc.
The independent non-commissioned survey was conducted from August 1-10 using face-to-face interviews of 5,750 respondents.
With a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso (85 percent) and Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto (83 percent) were statistically tied with Belmonte.
Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco got 78 percent, making statistically tied with Mandaluyong Mayor Menchie Abalos at 76 percent.
According to Paul Martinez, head of the survey firm, the respondents were asked a direct question and presented with a list of possible candidates as to who will be their preferred choice for their next city mayor.
In Pasig City, Sotto scored 66 percent in terms of voters’ preference against Vice Mayor Christian “Iyo” Bernardo at 32 percent.
Belmonte had 57 percent among possible mayoralty bets in Quezon City, followed by former mayor Herbert Bautista at 24 percent and Anakalusugan party-list Rep. Michael Defensor at 14 percent.
In Pasay City, Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano posted a 60 percent performance rating. A possible mayoralty bid gave Rep. Connie Dy 25 percent in terms of voter preference against Calixto-Rubiano’s 72 percent.
In Caloocan, Rep. Dale Malapitan, son of non-re-electionist Mayor Oscar Malapitan, got 67 percent against Rep. Edgar Erice’s 30 percent.
Rep. Ruffy Biazon, on the other hand, registered a wide margin against former mayor Aldrin San Pedro at 51 percent and 25 percent, respectively.
In Manila, things are shaping up for a tight race between Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna at 40 percent and Rep. Manuel Lopez at 38 percent, making them statistically tied.
Former Rep. Gustavo Tambunting leads the race in Parañaque City with 55 percent against Rep. Eric Olivarez, brother of incumbent Mayor Edwin Olivarez, at 40 percent.
In San Juan, Mayor Francis Zamora scored 60 percent in terms of voter preference against former political opponent Janella Marie Estrada who had 30 percent.
Mayor Marcelino Teodoro of Marikina City was backed by 53 percent of the respondents, while former mayor and now Rep. Bayani Fernando had 40 percent.
In Malabon, former Rep. Federico “Ricky” Sandoval II had 50 percent, followed by City Councilor Jose Lorenzo Oreta at 37 percent.
Mayors Lino Cayetano of Taguig City, Abigail Binay of Makati City, Imelda Aguilar of Las Pinas, and Miguel Ponce III of Pateros are seen to have no contenders in their re-election bid.
