Three high-profile individuals – Armed Forces chief of staff Lt. Gen. Jose Faustino, Senator Lito Lapid, and Budget officer-in-charge Usec. Tina Rose Canda – tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

“I received confirmation that I have tested positive for COVID-19 with the result of my RT-PCR this afternoon,” said Faustino, who is currently in self-isolation.

“Fortunately, I am fully vaccinated and in high spirits to continue performing my job, albeit in quarantine,” the military chief added.

AFP spokesman Col. Ramon Zagala said those who were in close contact with Faustino also underwent RT-PCR testing and are awaiting the results.

Faustino presided over two change of command rites at the Central Command and Visayas Command over the weekend.

Canda, for her part, said she tested positive for COVID-19, but remained asymptomatic.

Apparently, I’m asymptomatic and I hope it stays that way,” she told GMANEWS in an interview.

“I’m in quarantine right now. I’m not even getting out of my room. I still function. I still do my work here inside my room in my house,” Canda said.

Lapid, on the other hand, became the seventh senator to test positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

Lapid is currently undergoing treatment at the Medical City Clark where his doctors consider his case as mild to moderate.
