Leni unfazed by low ranking

Vice President Leni Robredo on Wednesday remained unfazed by her low ranking in the recent Pulse Asia survey, saying her ranking on the most preferred presidential bet was “respectable.”

Barry Gutierrez, Robredo’s spokesperson, said the Vice President “has paid no attention to the frantic positioning” for the 2022 polls.

“VP Leni’s numbers are respectable considering that she has been focused on working on COVID-19 response initiatives and has paid no attention to the frantic positioning for 2022 at all,” he maintained.

“There are people who keep on denying that they will run, but their faces and names are all over the billboards and tarpaulins. VP Leni is focused on her work,” he said.

Robredo tied at third place with two other possible presidential candidates in the Pulse Asia poll, which was topped by President Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

“We remain confident, when, and if, she decides to run for President, the numbers will be there. The fight has not yet started,” Gutierrez said.

Robredo also took a swipe against popular politicians who as early as now were already eyeing the 2022 elections.

Although Robredo did not name politicians, she said it would be better if they would instead focus on responding to COVID-19 cases.

The vice president added that amid the increase of COVID-19 cases in many areas, it would be more prudent if politicians would seriously pay attention to the health crisis instead of focusing on national elections.

“I hope that politicians will focus on what matters most—to lessen the blow of the virus and help Filipinos survive the pandemic,” Robredo said.
