National Capital Region Police Office chief Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. said an armed encounter ensued when the suspects realized that they were transacting with police operatives.

This is a huge reduction in the current amount of illegal drugs circulating in the market and destroying the lives of our countrymen, especially the youth),” Danao said.

At the NAIA, Customs agents  captured smuggled shipment of party drug ecstasy worth P9.5 million.

Operatives of the Customs Port of NAIA also arrested the claimants of the package containing 5,637 tablets of ecstasy from Neuss, Germany.

The bureau conducted a controlled delivery operation with the help of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group resulting in the claimants’ arrest at a Philippine Postal Office in Quezon City.

The package arrived in Manila on June 28 and was misdeclared as children’s toys, sandals, bag, socks, pants, rain boots, and birthday stock, a clear case of technical smuggling.

Prior to the entrapment operation, Customs placed the shipment under profiling and examination. The authorities discovered a foot spa machine where the packs of ecstasy tablets were concealed.

The authorities temporarily withheld the names of the claimants who are now in the custody of PDEA. The claimants will be charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 also known as the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Sections 1400 and 1401 in relation to Section 119 of RA 10863 also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
