Six district hospitals run by the Manila city government would be decongested of Covid-19 patients folllowing yesterday’s inauguration of the Manila Covid-19 Field Hospital located at Burnham Green in Rizal Park.

The six district hospitals are the Ospital ng Sampaloc, Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center, Ospital ng Tondo, Ospital  ng Maynila, Sta. Ana Hospital and Justice Abad Santos Medical Center.

Senate Health Committee Chairman Christopher Go and Manila Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso led the inauguration of the 344-bed capacity that will cater to mild-to-moderate COVID-19 patients.

Go lauded Domagoso and other city officials led by Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna- Pangan and Manila Health Department Director Dr. Arnold Pangan for their hard work and dedication to establish the facility.

Go recognized that this initiative is in line with the efforts of Manila to help enhance, capacitate, and build more health facilities nationwide  to cope with the increasing demands for medical care caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Your job is very inspiring. I’m glad with what Manila and its officials have been doing. You are alway ready to give public service,” Go told MCH officials.

Domagoso said the field hospital will initially accommodate 73 patients. He said it intends to declog the regular city-run hospitals of COVID cases so they can focus better on serious or critical ones.

Since mild to moderate cases are now out of the regular hospitals, Domagoso stressed the doctors, nurses and other hospital personnel there can now devote more time to residents afflicted with other diseases.

He likewise renewed his appeal to  the doctors, nurses and health workers who will be working in the field hospital to  ensure giving their best services.

Domagoso said the field hospital will  now be operational under the directorship of Dr. Arlene Dominguez.

Meanwhile, Go also acknowledged the challenges faced by private and public hospitals in addressing the surge of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He has been consistently pushing  for the national government to construct and build more similar modular hospitals and health facilities to overcome the national health crisis.

“When the COVID-19 pandemic struck our country, our hospitals and healthcare facilities were caught off-guard due to years and years of oversight and neglect.
