Senior Citizen Party-list Rep. Rodolfo Ordanes has filed House Resolution 1852, seeking congressional recognition for the feat accomplished by Filipina golfer Yuka Saso for winning the coveted United States Women’s Open on Monday at only 19 years old.
“Saso’s win will forever be etched in our sports record books as being the first Filipino to win a major golf tournament,” said Ordanes, a golf enthusiast himself.
“Her historic win effectively puts the Philippines on the world’s golfing map and will inspire more Filipinos to pursue golf as a sport or hobby,” Ordanes added.
Saso, who hails from San Ildefonso Bulacan, learned golf at the Northwoods Golf and Country Club in San Rafael, Bulacan. She was previously a double-gold medalist in the 2019 Asian Games and twice a winner on the Japan Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour.
Meanwhile, Ordanes called on his fellow seniors not to miss the important second and final dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
This is after more than a million Filipinos, including senior citizens, have missed their second dose of COVID-19 vaccine, according to a member of the Inter-Agency Task Force's sub-technical working group on data analytics.
“Importante po yang second dose mga minamahal kong seniors para ganap tayong maproteksyunan sa panganib ng COVID-19. Kung nagmintis man po kayo sa takda ninyong schedule ay wag po kayong mag-alala dahil sabi mismo ng DOH ay maaari pa rin kayong magpabakuna ng second dose. Basta bumalik lang po kayo,” Ordanes explained.
“Ang pagiging fully-vaccinated po ang susi upang maibalik natin sa normal ang ating buhay. Iniaapela ko na po sa ating pamahalaan na payagan nang makalabas ang mga seniors na fully-vaccinated na."
“Kung yung iba ngang di pa nababakunahan, may comorbidity man o wala, ay nakakalabas na, e bakit naman ang mga fully-vaccinated seniors na nagtiwala sa siyensiya ng pagbabakuna at pawang sumusunod sa mga health protocols ay pagbabawalan pa ring lumabas,” the Chair of the House Committee on Seniors said.
