The Bureau of Customs confiscated 2.5 tons of illegally imported veterinary medicines misdeclared as latex gloves at the Manila International Container Port (MICP).

The seized shipment valued at P5 million came from India.

However, customs examiners found discrepancies in the declaration manifest, prompting them to conduct a 100 percent examination which turned out to be medicines for animals.

A warrant of seizure detention was issued against the shipment and is under further investigation for possible violation of Section 1113 in relation to Section 1400 of RA 10863 also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).

The bureau reminds importers that medicines whether for human consumption or otherwise must be brought in with all the necessary permits from regulators.
