The City of Makati on Thursday announced the opening of its drive-thru vaccination site to accommodate persons with disabilities (PWD) and bedridden residents.

Mayor Abigail Binay said the local government made an agreement with Ayala Malls Circuit to establish the first on-the-go vaccination site in the metropolis at the Circuit Makati Estates grounds.

“In response to numerous requests from persons with disabilities and families with a bedridden member, we have come up with this initiative. We understand the predicament of those who have no means of transportation or are physically unable to go through regular procedure,” she said.

Binay thanked the management of Ayala Malls Circuit for its contribution to promote a more inclusive vaccination program in the city in order to develop herd immunity.

Some 100 bedridden patients and PWDs are expected to be vaccinated during the launching of the project scheduled today.

They have already pre-registered through www.proudmakatizen.com and received their confirmation, and were clustered for vaccination at Circuit on the same day for their comfort and convenience.

Individuals who do not have their own vehicles will be provided with one.

Mayor Binay assured there will be enough marshals and guides at the vaccination site to assist and monitor the flow of vehicles.

As with the regular vaccination procedure, patients will undergo counseling and screening. Their information will also be verified prior to receiving the vaccine and patients will also be monitored by medical experts for at least 30 minutes to one hour after receiving the jab.

The main difference is that the patient does not need to alight from the vehicle in consideration of his or her medical condition or disability.

Makati rolled out its vaccination program in March this year, using vaccines supplied by the national government.

So far, it has already vaccinated more than 35,000 medical front liners, essential workers, senior citizens, as well as individuals with comorbidities.

The local government is expecting the arrival of vaccines it ordered from AstraZeneca this coming July, and will provide free vaccination for residents, business and property owners, and non-resident employees.
