Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga is reportedly planning trips to India and the Philippines at the end of the month, Japanese media said Wednesday.

The visits, however, will be dependent on the COVID-19 situation.

If the trip pushes through, it will be the first time Suga will meet President Rodrigo Duterte and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in person.

Suga and Duterte are expected to discuss regional concerns, including their countries’ respective dispute with China.

The Philippines has repeatedly protested the swarming of Chinese militia vessels at the Julian Felipe reef and in features within the West Philippine Sea.

Tokyo, on the other hand, is headlocked with China over the Senkaku Islands.
